Elias Prokopiou is a renowned painter and sculptor in Skopelos, born and raised on the island, where he continues to live and create his remarkable artworks. His work is a must-see for anyone exploring Skopelos’ art and culture.

From a very young age, Elias developed a strong work ethic. As the eighth of nine siblings, he worked during the summers harvesting plums before finishing school. At just 13, he began working at Thanasis Kathiniotis’ brick factory. When the factory closed, he moved to Athens, taking on various jobs, including construction. During this period, he became active in the labor union and engaged in cultural events, which fueled his lifelong interest in the arts.

Elias’ journey as an artist began unexpectedly. Inspired by the works of engravers Tassos, Vallia, and Semerzidis, he discovered his talent when he found a box of watercolors and two small paintbrushes belonging to his children. Experimenting with a seascape, he realized his passion for painting and fully embraced his artistic path.

Expanding his creativity, Elias turned to sculpture, working with stone and wood. His Skopelos paintings and sculptures are admired for their unique beauty and artistic expression, making them a highlight for anyone interested in Skopelos art and galleries.
